Subject: This Week at Medford UMC -- June 26, 2020

This week at Medford UMC for {today}.

A Word from the Pastor

Friends -

This message is cliche, but also incredibly important. Little things matter.

I don't know that I've ever understood that more than during this time in my life.

The other day, I got a message from a friend - someone I know but am not super close to - that just said: "Woke up this morning thinking of you and praying for you. The verse that came to mind was Isaiah 41:10." It was exactly what I needed to hear that day.

It's funny how the Spirit works that way.

I was talking with a friend who has a member of their staff who leaves encouraging post-its on people's doors. More than once, this friend has found a message that was EXACTLY appropriate for the day - even for the moment.

Little things do matter. So today, if you feel a little nudge to do something kind, do it. If you think to yourself that you need to call an old friend to catch up, do it. If you've been at work in the kitchen and find yourself with some extra cookies/brownies/dinner, walk over to a neighbor and share with them.

The Spirit knows exactly how to turn your little things into big things for someone who really needs them. So pay attention!

Peace, Joe

Wave Parade Tomorrow (Sat. 6/27) at Noon

Don't forget: Tomorrow, Saturday, June 27th at noon in the church parking lot, you are invited to a Wave Parade for Pastor Rachel and Kevin Vollrath, her long-time partner .

Your warm smile and happy wave are all that are expected. But, if you would like to take this opportunity to help make the empty parsonage feel like home to Pastor Rachel, we've made a couple of wish lists that you can use to guide your shopping.

Of course, gift cards are welcome as well. All these can be dropped off during the drive-by or mailed directly to Rachel at 33 Forest Ave. Medford NJ 08055. If you prefer to email a gift card, you may send it to r.a.callender@gmail.com.

Pastoral Transition Procedures

Last week, the chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee shared guidelines on transitioning pastors from the GNJ Annual Conference. (You can read the letter here.) As a quick reminder, pastors who are retiring on July 1, 2020 must cease all pastoral duties including counseling and visitation with members/families of their previously-appointed church. For us, that means that Pastor Kathleen cannot and will not return to Medford UMC to officiate at weddings, baptisms, funerals, etc. nor will she be available to us for pastoral counseling or visitation. If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please contact Jeff Higgins.

Thank Yous

Laura Beverage sent a note of thanks to say that she "so grateful to the entire congregation for the many cards, calls, emails and, most importantly, prayers that have been said on her behalf during her recent back surgery. It was so very comforting to feel surrounded by so much love, especially under these changed times due to COVID-19 when loved ones cannot accompany or visit the patient having a procedure. And, an additional big THANK YOU to the Prayer Shawl Ministry for gifting me with my beautiful, and comforting shawl, which accompanied me to the hospital and has been by my side daily. It was interesting how moved some of the hospital workers were to both see the shawl and make sure it was placed on my bed once I was in my room. We are truly blessed to be part of such a loving and compassionate church family."

Georgette Denlinger shared a thank you for the beautiful 90th birthday cards from so many MUMC friends. Her 90th birthday was very special with a video of memories from family and friends through many years. Georgette is grateful most of all for the health that has enabled her to live these amazing 90 years!

Opportunities to Serve & Give

You may also share a story of how you have seen God at work in your life or your family's life during the pandemic. If you would like to participate, please email Pastor Joe or any member of our music staff.
